Congratulations on the essay! I am so curious about this film! I was not aware of Ray and Charles' involvement with the Museum. I am Kevin Roche's archivist and processed 47 years worth of documents and drawings on the Metropolitan Museum of Art projects which went to Yale University. Kevin Roche John Dinkeloo and Associate's master plan for the museum was completed in 1971 and I would love to get more information on how this fits in with that. Also, they collaborated with Kevin on the Aquarium and I remember seeing some of their plan drawings of the exhibit spaces which were amazing and so beautiful. It would have been a truly wonderful project if it had been built.
Hi Linda, it's wonderful to be introduced to you! I am in awe that you are the archivist for Kevin Roche's legacy—what an interesting and rewarding job, I'm sure!
I received some research scans from the LOC a little too late, after I had already submitted the piece. There were a few items related to Roche. I would be happy to share them with you if you'd like to email me. kelseyrose.williams @ gmail.
Oh, how I wish the national aquarium had been built, too!
He was a guard! He is a painter (Pratt grad) and along with the other guard/painters was part of the Met Guard shows. I used to meet him on post and then go for tea in the cafeteria. Good days!
I was a museum guard for a year while in college—although not at a museum as massive and glamorous as The Met. It’s a super interesting job, full of crazy moments. People love to lick and/or kiss art when they think nobody is watching. I bet your brother had great stories too!

Thank you!!
Wonderful! My brother worked at The Met for two decades and when I lived in NY would visit regularly. An amazing place, reading your essay now!
Two decades! What department was he in? What a lucky brother, and lucky you for being able to visit regularly!!
Thank you for taking the time to read it. ❤️
