Receiving permission to stay in France so I can continue reading, motorcycling, eating, and galavanting all around this enthralling piece of the globe.
What fun you’ve had! I hope that you do decide to visit all of the book towns (what a concept!) of France over time so that we can travel vicariously with you 📚💕 Best of luck with the move!
I'm ashamed to say I've never been to Montolieu, although I've read a lot about it. Someday, someday...
Now that you're married, can't you get a residency card or even dual citizenship?
And do you know where in the Basque Country? That's exciting news! I like Toulouse well enough but find it a little stifling -- I would not want to live there. My husband and I spent 4 days in Biarritz a few years back and started dreaming...but I think at this point in our lives, we'll be staying put.
I can apply for citizenship after living in France for five years (3 years from now)! Or I believe can apply for a ten-year visa after we’ve been married for three years (2 1/2 years from now). I’d definitely go the dual citizenship route so that I could keep my American passport and benefit from both countries.
The years are passing quickly, so the five year mark will be here before I know it, I’m sure!
We’ll be in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, so close to Biarritz! I hope you’re able to visit again! It’s total magic there. ❤️
When I got married (1990) it was possible to adopt French nationality automatically the day of the wedding. However, at that time, the US frowned upon dual nationality, so I didn't take that option. Then only about a year later, I received a postal letter from the US embassy informing me as a citizen that dual nationality would now be accepted! However, I had missed the boat in France and later had to apply for citizenship like anyone else -- something of an ordeal. I clearly remember, though, that I got a 10-year residency card as soon as I got married, so the laws must have changed along the line.
But you are right -- five years will go by fast.
Saint-Jean-de-Luz is beautiful as well -- we visited it on our trip.
It's my favorite part too! I mean, maybe it's tied with Paris. But they are both so unique and special in their own way. Thank you so much, Brenna! Exciting things all around! ❤️
I'm so happy you know it!! I can't wait to see what it's like to be a resident! We are always enchanted every time we visit and feel lucky to have family ties there.
Hello! You have to have a La Poste (French post office) account to place an order, which I believe needs a French address and phone number. But there is the possibility to ship to the USA for 20euro. I have an account and would be happy to place an order for you! Let me know. :)

Thank you sooo much. It would be a dream of mine to see all of the book towns--great idea! :)
