I’ve been hopping around via car and plane this month—prepping for getting married, working in our Eames archive, having friend reunions, and eating (a lot). It’s felt both fun and truly hectic. My mind is definitely reflecting this reality! Here’s a hodgepodge of things I’ve been compiling in that brain of mine lately.
OOH, enjoy your trip to France!!! Are you seeing other cities besides Paris? I am pretty sure the water lillies rooms are not usually so awful. I think it had something to do with the 100 teenagers inside of it. 😂
So interesting about the pinky finger! It made me wonder what the etymology is for pinking shears...so I looked it up...The word "pink" in this context is believed to have originated from the Dutch word "pinken," meaning "to peck" or "to jab." "Pinken" was used to describe the action of making a small cut or puncture. Hunh! Just curious...did you manage to make it to the Musée Bourdelle?
I looooove this lesson you just taught me, thank you! I'll never look at pinking shears the same way ever again.
And no, unfortunately we didn't make it! One of the main reasons why we went up to Paris was for my almost-husband to be fitted for a suit, but something went wrong with the tailor and we had to spend most of the trip running around town looking for a new option. Oops!
Oh goodness, I loved reading about the "enhanced articulation" of the pinky finger! When I teach articulation in voice, I like to connect it to the articulation of our joints (articulation literally means "jointedness"), so this was just a delight—as is everything you share!
Matisse is my favourite - love the little detail snips you shared. Such amazing colour. 🩷
Wow, just checked out Young Emperors, what a trip. I always enjoy your recommendations. xx
Thank you, Lauren, seriously! Aren't they fun?!
I’m excited to visit the Matisse room (and the stinky water lilies 😂) when I visit France in a couple of weeks!

PS - please keep me posted with how your trip goes--and the smell of the museum!
😂😂😂
My teenager has discovered cologne, so there’s a trail of his scent everywhere we go. 😂
I’ll be in Paris for a week, Aix-En-Provence for a couple of days, and Nice (and day trips) for four days. I am so excited!!!
I wish these teens would have discovered cologne too! That's way too funny.
ENJOY! I haven't been east of the city I live in (Toulouse) and always hear magical things about the Mediterranean Coast. It's going to be beautiful!!
Thank you! I’m so excited. I’ve only visited France once before — Paris for a week, almost 20 years ago!
This makes me even more pumped for you to go back! Twenty years is too long to be separated from Paris!!! ❣️

How stressful that must have been! Next time...

Thank you, Cate!! I'm glad you loved the pinky finger writing too.
It's fascinating to read about your voice vs. body articulation lesson, even if it was only one sentence!
Really enjoyed this. (Admittedly, my first time reading a hodgepodge!)
Those Matisse paintings are just stunning - and I love the angles you capture in the photographs. It gives a real intimate connection to the artworks.
Good luck with all the rest of your travels and marriage preparations.
Thank you so, so, so much, George! I had fun taking the pictures—a quick moment of feeling like an art bandit, stealing some goodness for myself.
