It’s the perfect time for another Hodgepodge writing, touching on: modern artists and their studios, Villa Borsani in Italy, and little spots of visuals from August and September.
Thank you so much, Peyton! And no offense to those who like leggings in public--I just love dresses too much and they're even easier to put on/wear than a pair of stretchy pants, in my opinion. 😂 Glad you relate!!
I studied Motherwell briefly in art school in art history. Out of all the male abstract expressionists, I think he is my favorite. In our art museum used to hang Motherwell 's “The Deserted Studio." I loved visiting it! There was something very powerful to me about his paintings as response to the Spanish Civil War. You're so right about Helen and Robert being right for one another. Fellow creatives can support one another in ways non-creative folks can't understand.
I love World of Interiors, too. The September issue isn't out yet in our book stores and I NEED it. I really loved the Giambattista Valli Paris feature. I love the staircase at Villa Borsani! It's such a dream. The understated blue bedroom has always made my heart sing. Hyman and Herroro's Blue Room always reminds me of it, like a sort of homage to Villa Borsani. I feel like I read that somewhere but it's also likely I made it up. But references are definitely there!
You were an art history major too?! All of our similarities make sense. Same here about Motherwell, although I had/have a soft spot for Willem de Kooning too.
The new October issue of WoI is hefty and beautiful. Can't wait for you to get a copy!!
All of these links you shared are incredible! I loved seeing more photos of other areas of Villa Borsani, thank you.
This is a weird and unpopular opinion, but I typically find blue to be one of the least interesting colors. I don't mind that the sky and the sea are (usually) blue, but otherwise I gravitate away from it and toward the warmer side of the color spectrum. Homes like Villa Borsani and the others you shared are perfectly the right kind of blue, though!!
I got my Bachelors in Psychology but that was only because I was a directionless youth. In my mid 20s I went back to school for graphic design. We of course had to know art through the centuries and how it impacted design. You share many artists I’m not familiar with so I love that, too!
How funny, blue is one of my favorite colors 🤭Glad you liked the links. Yes, I have my eyes peeled for the new issues!
ah i love your posts kelsey!! also totally agree about the athleisure lmao

You inspire me too, thank you tons! I was finishing up this post when I saw your Black Square writing go live and had to sneak it in there. :)
